Puncheon Porter is as close as you will get to what is regarded as a traditional porter.

Season: December (Limited)

Puncheon Porter is as close as you will get to what is regarded as a traditional porter. It is robust and silky smooth, with an intense depth of flavour

Did you know a ‘puncheon’ comes from traditional Isle of Wight dialect? Puncheons were used to carry beer into the fields at harvest time.

We are so lucky to have ‘Goddards’ brewing such quality ales on the Island.
I’ve sampled them all (I think) & have my favourites.
‘Puncheon Porter’ is a seasonal favourite of mine, a rich, dark, smooth, mellow Porter; as good as any London Porter if not superior with a nice warm mouth feel & lack of astringency (which is the curse of Stouts & Porters alike) My only criticism is not enough is brewed to last all year!

  2. Simon Orton

Had a couple of pints of ‘Puncheon Porter’ last night and it was the best beer of its kind I have drunk for years. It was an easy smooth drink without the slight bitterness that can accompany other beers of its kind. Why do you only make it available in December? It would be a great ale to drink all year, but especially November to March. Do you only make it available on draught, or can you buy it in bottles as well?
